UK unit of Russia’s Alpari goes bankrupt as Swiss franc surges
MOSCOW, Jan 16 (PRIME) -- Alpari (UK) Limited, Britain-based unit of Russian forex company Alpari has declared bankruptcy because of the decision made by the Swiss central bank to scrap its currency cap, the company said in a statement on Friday.
The central bank’s Thursday decision pushed the franc sharply up against the core global currencies. At the same time, the regulator decreased the interest rate on deposit accounts’ balances to minus 0.75% from minus 0.25%.
The decision lead to a high volatility and a liquidity crunch on the market, which caused the bankruptcy, Alpari (UK) Limited said.
